Virginia has landed their biggest commitment for the 2013 football recruiting class. Richmond native Tim Harris pulled the trigger in favor of the Hoos shortly after today's spring game at Scott Stadium. He also announced the commitment on his twitter account, saying that 'UVA IS HOME." Harris is ranked as a four star prospect by both Rivals and 247, and the sites have Harris ranked as the 161st and 113th ranked player in the nation, respectively. In addition to Virginia, Harris held offers from California, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Ole Miss, Ohio State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Harris is the fourth prospect to commit to Virginia for the 2013 class, joining the Good Counsel duo Brendan Marshall and Andre Levrone, and offensive tackle Sadiq Olanrewaju.

The UVA staff has had some help recruiting Harris as well. Two of his teammates at Varina High School are signed with Virginia for the 2012 class; athlete Maurice Canady and defensive tackle Tyrell Chavis. Harris fits the mold of the prototypical collegiate corner or safety as well. Listed at 6'2'' and running a sub 4.5 40, Harris projects as a rangy defensive back that can cover a lot of ground and go toe to toe with big, fast wide receivers at the next level.

There is no doubt that this is a big time commit for Mike London and his staff. The secondary is position group that is most in-limbo as spring practice wraps up. Harris has the ability to come in and contribute right away, when he arrives next fall. It's also great when the program can make a splash with a big commitment in the spring. Other recruits notice these types of commitments, and might give UVA another look before they wrap their recruitment.

It remains to be seen whether or not Virginia lands any more talent this weekend. Some players are willing to come right out, like Harris did, and commit on the spot. Others like to go home, mull it over, talk to family, and then decide whether to commit or not. The next few days will tell the tale, so stay tuned to Streaking the Lawn for all the latest football and basketball recruiting news.
