Every week, the ACC recognizes the top student-athletes of each sport for their performance the previous week. Just about every week, at least one or two -- and sometimes more -- Virginia Cavaliers earn these honors. In keeping true to our dedication of shining the spotlight on both revenue and Olympic sports, Streaking the Lawn will endeavor to update you weekly. The following are Virginia's ACC Performers of the Week for the week beginning April 16, and the description is provided by the conference's media release.
Kim Kolarik, Women's Lacrosse
Kolarik, of Towson, Md., came up with eight saves in leading Virginia to an 11-7 victory over No. 19 Johns Hopkins last Wednesday evening. Kolarik's steady play down the stretch helped preserve the win for the Cavaliers who improved to 10-5 on the season. The Defensive Player of the Week honor is Kolarik's third of the season. Virginia holds the fourth seed in the upcoming ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship and will face fifth-seeded Boston College on Friday at noon.
Nick Vena, Track and Field
Vena took home the shot put title at the Patriot Open Invitational on Sunday in Fairfax, Va. The Morristown, N.J. native broke his own school record with a distance of 19.27 meters, which stands as the top mark in the conference this season and ranks 10th in the nation.
