Virginia lands #6

Virginia has landed a commitment for its greatest position of need in the 2013 cycle, linebacker. Baltimore native Micah Kiser committed to the Cavaliers Monday. Kiser was a teammate of current UVA wide receiver Darius Jennings at powerhouse Gilman. In addition to Virginia, Kiser held offers from Virginia Tech,Boston College, Florida, Maryland, Oklahoma, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers and Stanford. Before committing to UVA today, the frontrunners for his services were reported to be Virginia, Maryland and Stanford. Kiser is rated a 3 star prospect by Rivals, and a 4 star prospect by 247sports. Micah Kiser is the 6^th UVA commit for the 2012 class, and 2^nd that is projected to play defense, along with 4-star safety Tim Harris.

Kiser projects as an inside linebacker at the collegiate level. Listed at 6'1'' 215, Kiser will need to excel at both run-stopping and coverage of backs and tight ends in Jim Reid's system. With Kiser's commitment, UVA fans can stop worrying (at least for a short while) about Virginia's ability to lure linebackers to Charlottesville. Coming into the recruiting cycle this was Virginia's biggest need, and with this commitment, they have begun to address it. UVA will continue recruiting linebackers in this cycle, and expect them to take several commits at the position in the 2013 class. This was a big-time "get" for Virginia, and perhaps it will help with recruiting Kiser's teammate, blue-chip defensive tackle Henry Poggi, who is also considering UVA.
