Virginia landed its 8th commitment for the 2013 class Friday. Houston native Hipolito Corporan, a Cornerback, has given his verbal pledge to the Cavaliers. In addition to Virginia, Corporan held offers from Baylor, UTEP and Tulsa, according to Scout.com. Corporan joins Varina Defensive Back Tim Harris in the Secondary group for the 2013 class. Corporan will also join fellow Houston native Kelvin Rainey, a 2012 commit, in the Cavaliers secondary.

Corporan is listed at 6'2'', so he has decent size for a Defensive Back. The Houston native also has good instincts and speed, and when the ball is thrown his way, he can make a play on it. The Houston area, and all of Texas for that matter, is known for having a great deal of speed and talent all over the field, so Corporan will obviously see some great competition before arriving in Charlottesville next fall. Also worth noting is that Westside High School, where Corporan plays, has been ranked as one of the best High Schools in America in recent years, so Corporan already has experience with excellent academics.

Frankly, this commitment seemed to come out of nowhere. UVA offered Corporan a few weeks back, but that's about all that's been said about it. There hasn't been a lot of buzz, at least around UVA, that the Texas native would commit to the Cavaliers soon, but that's how recruiting goes sometimes. The defensive backfield was not considered a position of great need in the 2013 class, so don't look for Virginia to take too many more corners or safeties in this class. One to keep an eye on would be Good Counsel standout Kirk Garner, who recently named the Cavaliers as one of the top contenders for his services. Now that Corporan is on board, and another spot in the 2013 class is filled, expect there to be even more jockeying for scholarships in UVA's class. There will be a big run in commitments at some point this summer, and Corporan's commitment might get the ball rolling as we head into June.
