It seems that the run of commitments that we thought would happen is underway in Charlottesville. Virginia landed their 3rd commitment in 9 days Thursday when Defensive Tackle Donta' Wilkins made the call. Wilkins, who plays at Potomac High School in Dumfries, chose the Cavaliers over offers from Miami, Penn State and North Carolina, and others. Wilkins is rated a 4-star prospect by 247sports, and 3-stars by Rivals, making him the 3rd 4-star commitment (joining Tim Harris and Micah Kiser) in Virginia's 2013 class. Wilkins is the 12th commitment in Virginia's 2013 class, and joins St. Christopher's Defensive End Jack English on the Defensive Line.

Wilkins is a big boy. At 6'3'' 315 lbs, the Potomac High product will be a force with clogging up the interior line and taking up blockers. For a player of that size, Wilkins has some pretty good athletic ability. These types of players are key for Virginia's 4-3 scheme, opening up holes for the Cavaliers' athletic pass rushers off the edges. This is how defensive lines in the SEC and elsewhere have become so dominant, and good at creating havoc in the opponent's backfield.

It appeared that Wilkins was favoring UVA throughout the process, and honestly, I would've thought he probably would've committed to Virginia by now. In the end, Wilkins went with the school he was most familiar with, over some other solid offers. Wilkins commitment means that Virginia is just one space closer to being full for 2013. His commitment, coupled with a few more we may see soon, could push some undecided prospects over the edge in UVA's favor.
