Garner picks Virginia

Virginia has landed their 2nd commitment in as many days, when Cornerback Kirk Garner gave his verbal to the staff. Garner was in Charlottesville today, and made the call while on Grounds. Garner becomes the 3rd Good Counsel player to join the 2013 class, joining his teammates Brendan Marshall and Andre Levrone in the class. Garner is rated as a 4-star prospect by Rivals and a high 3-star by 247sports (for now). Garner has quite the offer sheet, and chose the Cavaliers over Florida State, Maryland, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Nebraska, Michigan, and many more. The star Cornerback becomes the 13th member of Virginia's 2013 class, and the 3rd Defensive Back, joining fellow 4-star Tim Harris, and Texas native Hipolito Corporan.

Garner has decent size for a Cornerback, at 5'11'' 180. His 40 time is in the 4.5 range and he looks fast on tape. The film shows a corner that is versatile, in that he can pack a punch and deliver hits, and cover quick Wide Receivers as well. Garner excels when the ball comes in his area, and has racked up interceptions in his Good Counsel career. It also can't hurt that at Good Counsel, Garner has gained valuable experience going up against talent receivers from some of the region's top prep programs.

Garner's commitment makes two this week, and four in the past 11 days. The 2013 class is filling up quickly, and from here on out, Virginia is going to me more "selective" when it comes to who they pursue to fill these last few spots. Some players that UVa has been going hard after may see the Cavalier's interest fall off a bit, due to the lack of remaining places in the class. There are a select few blue-chippers, like Taquan Mizzell and Wyatt Teller, who will be guaranteed a spot in this class no matter what. Other than that, it will be interesting to see who Virginia ends up locking in over the next few weeks and months.
