EA Sports' newest NCAA Football 13 has a really cool feature: you can take any Heisman winner and put him onto your team. Doesn't matter who, doesn't matter what year. Pretty nifty. So they asked us, if we could pick any Heisman winner to be a Cavalier, who would it be?
A lot of EA's commercials have focused on taking a Heisman from a rival school and cheating on your own boys by playing a season with the rival. Luckily for Virginia, the Hokies are nowhere near on that level. For that matter, the ACC hasn't won a Heisman since 2000 (Chris Weinke of FSU).
So the question for you, the reader, is, who would you pick if you could pick any former Heisman at all? Virginia currently has an overabundance of quarterbacks, so I'm not sure I'd want a QB this year. But what I'm curious is, what about 2009?
The 2009 season turned out to be Al Groh's last season at Virginia. It was full of memories, most notably, a loss to William & Mary, another winless November, and closing the season with a poetry reading session. Things got weird.
That year, starting QB Jameel Sewell had a passer rating of just 110.05 and threw a perfect 1:1 ratio of 7 touchdowns to 7 interceptions (not a good thing).
By comparison, my favorite quarterback and Heisman winner was the 2007 winner, Tim Tebow. That season, he had a standout passer rating of 172.46 and threw 32 touchdowns to just six interceptions that season. For a guy who catches so much flak for not being able to pass the ball, that's not too shabby, am I right?
You have to wonder, would Al Groh's fate be very different if Virginia had somehow been able to pull in Tim Tebow that season? Someone who has bought the game needs to go ahead and simulate the season. What about you? Out of all the Heisman winners, who would you offer a Virginia jersey to?
