Virginia and Notre Dame kick off their ACC rivalry on Thursday when the top-ranked Cavalier women's soccer team hosts #9 Notre Dame at 7pm.
Virginia is undefeated and untied on the season - the only team in the nation that can claim that. At 12-0-0 (6-0-0 ACC), the Cavaliers have a target on their back and the Fighting Irish is the next team to take aim at them.
Notre Dame is 9-2-1 (5-1-1 ACC). They lost to Miami on the road and tied Wake Forest at home. They've beaten Pitt, Maryland, Syracuse, North Carolina and N.C. State.
This will almost certainly be the toughest test of the season so far for the Cavaliers.
I encourage everyone that is in Charlottesville to come out to the game on Thursday. The athletics department is trying to sweeten the deal: The first 1500 fans will get a Virginia soccer scarf while every single fan will get a free hot dog and soda.
There are five ACC teams in the top 10 in this week's poll. Florida State (3), North Carolina (4) and Virginia Tech (10) are the others. Florida State is undefeated on the season, but has three ties. Everyone else has lost at least one game. Wake Forest also checks in at #14.
