Virginia landed commitments from 2014 Athlete Donovan Dowling and 2015 Safety Juan Thornhill recently. The HOOS despite their struggles on the gridiron are still hot on the recruiting trail. Both players are in state prospects who have decided to stay home.
The 6'2" 210lb Donovan Dowling commits to the program from Richmond VA's Varina high school, a program that has recently sent current HOOS Tim Harris, Tyrell Chavis and Maurice Canady. Dowling is unranked by most publications, but is not an unknown as he was recruited by Richmond, JMU, W&M and Delaware. He is a player who was reported numerous times as awaiting his offer from UVA and wanted to commit for sometime. Dowling has the ability to play multiple position in the secondary as well as wide receiver. With his size and the commits UVA has on defense, Dowling will most likely get his start on offense. With the recent string of players UVA has landed from Varina, HOOS fans should feel good about this commitment. Dowling is the twelfth member of the UVA's 2014 recruiting haul.
Juan Thornhill while only a Junior at Altavista high school committed to the HOOS. He becomes UVA's first commitment for the 2015 recruiting class. At 6'2" 175lbs Juan Thornhill was listed as an Athlete by many publications. He was offered as a Safety from UVA, and that looks to be the position he projects best at in college. Thornhill was receiving interest from Boston College, Duke, ECU and Virginia Tech. He ended his recruitment early when he picked the HOOS. For Altavista he doubles as a dual threat QB and also played as a point guard on their state championship basketball team. Thornhill is a fantastic athlete and a great early get for the 2015 recruiting haul.
