Brendan Marshall

Committed to Virginia: 3/14/12
Lead Recruiter: Anthony Poindexter
Brendan Marshall became the first player to commit to Virginia for the 2013 class, back in March of last year. UVa went after several quarterbacks in this class, and ended up signing two: Marshall and Virginia Beach native Corwin Cutler. Marshall was the starting quarterback for the past two seasons at Good Counsel, one of the nation's elite programs. Marshall threw to elite talents like 5-stars Stefon Diggs and Kendall Fuller, and future Hoos Andre Levrone and Kirk Garner. Marshall is a consensus 3-star prospect. The Good Counsel signal-caller made Honorable Mention All-Metro DC, but as a punter.
Marshall had two offers when he committed to UVa, Virginia and California. The 3-star quarterback has all the measurables to be a collegiate quarterback, standing 6'5'' and weighing over 200 lbs. Marshall has really nice touch on the deep ball, as he spread the ball around to all the great athletes he had to throw to. As an athlete, Marshall's film reminds me some of Matt Schaub, where he can get out on bootlegs and rollouts in a pro-style offense. A lot of Good Counsel's offensive concepts seem to be similar to Virginia's pro-style scheme, and that will help Marshall along in his development.
Marshall adds another arm to an already deep position group at quarterback. With Michael Rocco transferring, there still leaves six scholarship quarterbacks at UVa when fall camp opens in August. Marshall is almost a surefire lock to redshirt his freshman year, with so many other players ahead of him on the depth chart. Down the line, he will have to compete with Corwin Cutler and others for playing time. The quarterback position is a mental game as much as it is phyiscal, and if Marshall can master Virginia's offense, he will have the opportunity to play down the line in Charlottesville.
