Corwin "Turtle" Cutler
Position: Quarterback
Hometown (School): Virginia Beach, VA (Ocean Lakes)
Height/Weight: 6'3'' 182 lbs
Committed to Virginia: 5/16/12
Lead Recruiter: Chip West
Corwin Cutler signed with Virginia today, adding another talented signal caller to an already deep group in Charlottesville. Cutler drew rave reviews on the camp circuit, and had a tremendous senior season to follow it up. The Ocean Lakes star becomes the third quarterback on the Virginia roster from the talent-rich "757," joining Phillip Sims and David Watford on Grounds. Cutler is rated as a high 3-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports.
Cutler started his senior season red hot, and lead Ocean Lakes to an undefeated regular season. Cutler threw for nearly 2,300 yards 31 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions, in only 24 quarters. He was pulled early in a lot of the Dolphins' games because they jumped out to big first-half leads. Cutler played his senior season with a heavy heart, after the tragic death of his brother in the offseason. Cutler also dealt with adversity at the end of his season, tearing his ACL in the team's first playoff game. He is expected to make a full recovery, and the injury shouldn't effect his future at Virginia.
Cutler has a strong arm, and solid accuracy to match. He lit it up on the camp circuit in 7 on 7 work, and his game film shows he has a strong command of the passing game as well. He has an unorthodox release, but that wasn't an issue for pros like Philip Rivers or Brett Favre in their development. Cutler's mechanics could use a little work, like most quarterbacks can when they get to college, but he definitely has the tools to have be a really good collegiate quarterback, and an underrated 3-star prospect when all is said and done.
