2013 Virginia Football Roster Profile: Nick Koutris

In part 2 of today's doubleheader, we take a look at walk-on OT Nick Koutris. He could've played FCS ball, but chose to attend Virginia, likely for reasons beyond football. He got to appear late in last year's Richmond game, seeing the field for the first time. While he isn't likely to see any time on offense, he could get some run on special teams.

Nick Koutris was recruited by a number of ACC and MAC programs, and had offers from some solid FCS schools. He chose to walk-on at Virginia, a decision that was likely not about football. Koutris has spent 3 full years in the program and appeared in one game.

At just 265 pounds, Koutris isn't really big enough to play tackle at this level. He's not really athletic enough either. He's a solid scout team player, and was named scout team player of the week once in 2011. He isn't likely to ever be more than that.

Koutris is a very good athlete. He could probably be an asset on special teams, particularly on FG defense where his height would be valuable. He's also reasonably quick for a guy his size, so he could be helpful on punt coverage. Of course, the Hoos have other good athletes for special teams and many of those guys have value beyond those units.

Koutris is listed as the 3rd RT on the depth chart, but realistically isn't likely to get into a game on offense. Especially as the coaching staff has done a good job of building depth on the OL. He will continue to play on scout teams, and could get some action on special teams depending on how those units are performing.
