2013 Virginia Football Roster Profile: Jon Goss

Here is part 2 of our latest double header. This brings us walk-on OG Jon Goss. Goss has worked hard with the scout team, and was rewarded with action in 3 games last season. He's listed as the 3rd LG, but isn't realistically going to see the field during game situations. He is one of few engineering majors to play football for the Hoos.

Position: OG
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 275
Hometown: Montclair, Va
High School: Forest Park HS

Coming out of the Woodbridge area, Goss was not recruited. He was all-district and a 4 year starter. He also played lacrosse. He walked on at Virginia, and has stuck around, now entering his 4th year in the program. He even got into 3 games last year.

Goss is a pretty good athlete for a big man, but probably lacks the strength needed to play OG at this level. He's currently listed as the 3rd LG on the depth chart, but realistically would need 5 or 6 guys to go down before he'd be out there.

Goss has been a solid scout team guy for a while, and was named scout team player of the week during the final week of his redshirt freshman campaign. He has worked hard to put on enough weight to handle the position if necessary, but probably would be as surprised as any fan if he were actually put on the field during real game situations.

Goss is majoring in mechanical engineering, something most football players don't even attempt. It's a difficult major and kudos to Goss for working hard enough to handle e-school and football. Not many successfully done both.
