Kicker Gary Wunderlich announced on twitter this morning that he has decommitted from Virginia, and will instead head to Ole Miss. Wunderlich is the second player to decommit from Virginia in this cycle joining, defensive tackle Chris Nelson, who committed to Louisville.
Wunderlich committed to Virginia on April 9th, choosing the Hoos over an offer from Texas A&M. Since then Ole Miss decided to offer, complicating the process for the Memphis native. Wunderlich has family ties to both schools, and Ole Miss offers the allure of playing in the SEC, and much closer to home.
It is unclear at this time whether or not Virginia will chose to offer another kicker, or try to lure a walk-on to Charlottesville instead. With the Cavaliers taking a small group in the 2014 class, there will be another opportunity for the staff to go out and use what was Wunderlich's scholarship on another player that, up to this point, does not yet hold an offer from the UVa.
