Women's Soccer Stomps the Spiders, Remains Undefeated

Molly Menchel led the Cavalier women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Richmond on Sunday.

Senior Molly Menchel scored two goals on Sunday night as the Cavalier women's soccer team improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season by defeating in-state foe Richmond 3-0. Sophomore Makenzy Doniak tallied the Hoos third goal of the game which also happened to be her third goal of the season.

Virginia has now outscored its opponents 16-3 on the season. Interestingly, they've done that by using three different goalkeepers. Senior Danielle DeLisle, junior Chuchill O'Connell and freshman Morgan Stearns have each played in two games, with DeLisle and Stearns splitting the starts. Against Richmond, DeLisle started the game while O'Connell played the second half.

Menchel scored both of her goals in the first half on crosses from senior Morgan Stith and junior Kaili Torres. The two goals came just two minutes apart in the 23rd and 25th minutes. Doniak's insurance goal came on a nifty dribble around the goalie after a through ball from freshman Alexis Shaffer.

The Cavaliers return to the pitch on Friday for the second game of the Virginia Nike Classic against Rutgers at 7pm. Seton Hall and William & Mary face off in the first game at 4pm. Virginia will play Seton Hall in the final game of the Classic on Sunday at 2:30pm
