Season tickets sales are at record highs for the Virginia men's basketball team, and with hype at an all-time high for Wahoo fans, it seems that this would be the perfect time to tug at everyone's heartstrings and see if we can build some goodwill around these parts.
Did you know that one in three women experience relationship violence?
With the Ray Rice story creating a black mark throughout the sports headlines in 2014, it's easy to forget that relationship violence isn't just something seen on the news. It's something that can affect a lot closer to home. In 2010, former Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love was found unresponsive in her apartment in Charlottesville. Her on-again, off-again boyfriend George Huguely, a member of the Virginia men's lacrosse team, was found guilty of her murder.
The One Love Foundation was created to honor "Yards" and draw attention to student athletes like her who contribute positively to their teams and communities. Today, the organization seeks to prevent future tragedies by raising awareness about the warning signs of relationship violence.
Join Streaking The Lawn and make the Pack Line Pledge to support the One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Reynolds Love.
We're issuing a challenge to all of our readers to take the Pack Line Pledge: make a personal pledge to donate to the One Love Foundation every time the Virginia men's basketball team holds an opponent to under 50! The amount you pledge is completely up to you, and whether it's $1, $20 or $300 per instance, STL and the One Love Foundation appreciate your generous support and we thank you.
Last season, Tony Bennett and company held opponents to under 50 a whopping 12 times. The year before that, it was eight, and before that it was ten. How big of an impact do you want to make?
Win an autographed poster of the 2014-2015 Virginia Men's Basketball team!
Pledge your support by posting in the comments how much you pledge to give per instance. Remember, no amount is too small, and certainly no amount is too great. Every person who pledges before Friday at 5:00 p.m. will be entered to win a 2014-2015 Virginia Men's Basketball team poster autographed by the current team! No purchase necessary, and all entrants are subject to the official rules are found here.
Where do I donate?
We've set up a Crowdrise page here (https://www.crowdrise.com/packlinepledge/). Once the Hoos hold a team under 50, your job is to fulfill your pledge by going to that site and making the donation. Your money goes straight to the One Love Foundation and does not go through our hands at all.
Together, we can make a difference!
