Virginia Football Bowl Projections: Week 8

There's a minor consensus on where the Hoos are headed.

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

At the risk of getting yelled at by all of you fine folks, Virginia, now sitting at 4-2, only needs two more wins for bowl eligibility. The Hoos get the honor of traveling to Wallace Wade Stadium this week to face Duke, a team who has taken five of the past six meetings. And with six very tough games to finish off the schedule, there's no guarantee that Virginia will find two wins there.

But still, the Cavaliers' surprising success has instilled confidence among the media (thanks, singular AP voter!), and most are predicting the Hoos to at least make the postseason.

Here's a breakdown of where folks think the Hoos are headed after Week 7's games:

Source Projection Location Bowl Date Opponent Ties
SB Nation Military Bowl Annapolis, MD 12/27/14 Temple Owls American vs. ACC
ESPN (McMurphy) TaxSlayer Bowl (Formerly Gator) Jacksonville, FL 1/2/14 Texas A&M Aggies ACC (or Big Ten No. 5, depending on Music City) or Notre Dame vs. SEC No. 5
ESPN (Schlabach) Hyundai Sun Bowl El Paso, TX 12/27/14 Arizona State Sun Devils ACC vs Pac 12 No. 5
ESPN (Hale) Hyundai Sun Bowl El Paso, TX 12/27/14 ACC vs Pac 12 No. 5
CBSSports (Jerry Palm) NONE
Phil Steele Hyundai Sun Bowl El Paso, TX 12/27/14 Arizona State Sun Devils ACC vs Pac 12 No. 5
Scout Russell Athletic Bowl Orlando, FL 12/29/14 TCU Horned Frogs ACC No. 2 vs. Big 12 No. 3
College Sports Madness Duck Commander Independence Bowl Shreveport, LA 12/27/14 UAB Blazers ACC vs. SEC
The Sporting News Hyundai Sun Bowl El Paso, TX 12/27/14 UCLA Bruins ACC vs Pac 12 No. 5
Syracuse Post-Standard Military Bowl Annapolis, MD 12/27/14 American vs. ACC

And as a reminder, here's how the ACC's bowl tie-ins work:

If No. 1 isn't in College Football Playoff

Notre Dame is eligible for any ACC bowl tie-in as long as it's within one game of the team eligible for the slot

1. Orange Bowl vs. SEC, Big Ten or Notre Dame

2. Russell Athletic Bowl vs. Big 12 No. 3

3. Capital One Bowl vs. SEC (ACC in vs. SEC if the Orange Bowl takes a Big Ten team)

Second Tier

Belk Bowl vs. SEC

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl vs. SEC (ACC and Big Ten combine with each getting three appearances in six years) OR

Hyundai Sun Bowl vs. Pac-12

Music City Bowl vs. SEC (ACC and Big Ten combine with each getting three appearances in six years)

Pinstripe Bowl vs. Big Ten

Third Tier

AdvoCare V100 Bowl vs. SEC

Beef 'O'Brady's Bowl vs. American Athletic

Detroit Bowl vs. Big Ten

Military Bowl vs. American Athletic

Duck Commander Independence Bowl vs. SEC (or C-USA if SEC not available)

Conditional Tier
