Virginia Cavaliers Basketball: Hoops team to play in 2015 Charleston Classic

After Corpus Christi and Brooklyn, the Wahoos are headed to the Palmetto State for an early-season tournament next November.

The Virginia basketball team will play in the 2015 Gildan Charleston Classic next November, according to a report from the Daily Progress. The tournament takes place November 19-22, 2015 at the TD Arena in Charleston, South Carolina. Virginia will join Bradley (Missouri Valley Conference), George Mason (Atlantic-10), Long Beach State (Big West), Mississippi (SEC), Oklahoma State (Big XII), Seton Hall (Big East), and Towson (Colonial Athletic Association) in the 8-team tournament. Virginia's first-round opponent hasn't been announced.

Opinion: There's some good and bad here. On the positive side, many of the Charleston Classic games have been historically broadcast by ESPN's family of networks. So there's a good chance Virginia fans will be able to watch. In addition, Charleston is a doable road trip for alumni and fans from Virginia and the southeast. On the downside, an argument could be made that this isn't a particularly strong field, so Virginia may have to look elsewhere for an out-of-conference splash.
