While the action on the gridiron doesn't begin until 7:00, the Virginia football program received some excellent news this morning, when 2016 quarterback Sonny Abramson committed to the Cavaliers. The New Jersey native held offers from Duke, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Iowa among others, but decided on the Wahoos.
The 6-2, 217 pound signal-caller is rated four-stars by 24/7, and three stars by Rivals.com. Rivals also had Abramson rated the 11th best pro-style quarterback in the entire class of 2016.
The Garden State native is a commanding presence in the pocket, and has been a starter since his freshman season. In his first two years under center, Abramson combined for nearly 5,000 yards, and 53 touchdowns. His Pope John Paul XVIII team finished 5-5 this year, falling in the first round of the playoffs.
Abramson adds even more depth at the quarterback position. Assuming there is no attrition, (big assumption) when Abramson arrives in Charlottesville, Greyson Lambert and Matt Johns will be seniors, Brandon Marshall will be a junior, Corwin Cutler will be a sophomore, and Nick Johns will be a freshman.
Abramson will need targets to throw to, and he has two in the class of 2016, in wide receiver commits Joseph Reed, and Cole Blackman.
The bottom line is that this is exhibit 1,000 that this staff knows how to get it done on the recruiting trail, regardless of what is going on on the outside. Props to Mike London and company for wrapping this one up.
