Statistics, Statistics Everywhere

The Ken Pomeroy app family is growing, and it has ties to the Streaking the Lawn community!

If you buy something from an SB Nation link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

As you may know, we here at Streaking the Lawn are big fans of Ken Pomeroy's statistics. The tempo-free metrics on his site help provide actual comparisons between the teams, going beyond points per game, rebounds per game and other "simple" metrics that people like Doris Burke like to use.

If you need a refresher, take a look back at Brian Schwartz's article on tempo-free basketball statistics from during our 2013 Midnight Madness onslaught of articles.

kenpom.com gives you access to all of this wonderful data - including game predictions based on the data - for the low low low yearly price of $19.95. It's well worth it for any college basketball writer, enthusiast, fan, etc. He's also got an iOS app that gives you access to the stats on your iDevice.

So why am I bringing this up now? Because Ken is adding to his repertoire and the additions have ties to STL!

Ken is announcing today the addition of new mobile apps for Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8 and Android devices! And what's the tie to STL? Yours truly (@Tim_STL) designed and developed both the Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 apps for Ken over the last year, burying myself in his data to ensure a solid experience on a wide range of devices - phones, tablets, laptops and desktops.

I'll give you some details on the two apps I developed below, but if you want to just jump right in, here's the download links for the entire family of Ken Pomeroy statistics apps. All apps are available to download for free from their respective stores, but a subscription to kenpom.com is required for the apps to work.

Features

Most of the features of the four apps are similar: You get access to the main overall rankings as well as individual team information, scouting reports, schedules (with predictions) and rosters (with individual player rankings).

There are a few features that are unique to each platform, however. I'll cover the main one on Windows and Windows Phone here. That feature is the ability to "pin" your favorite team to your start screen. When you do that, your team's current national KenPom ranking, schedule and other information is automatically refreshed in the background so you'll always know what your team's status is according to Ken.

Take a look at what this looks like:

On Windows
Without a Favorite Team With a Favorite Team
Large Tile Without a Favorite Team
With a Favorite Team
Medium Tile Without a Favorite Team
With a Favorite Team
And on Windows Phone
Without a Favorite Team With a Favorite Team With a Favorite Team (reverse)
Large Tile Largetile_medium
Largetile-favorite_medium
Largetile-reverse-favorite_medium
Medium Tile Mediumtile_medium
Mediumtile-favorite_medium
Mediumtile-reverse-favorite_medium

If you're into college basketball, you should do yourself a favor by subscribing to kenpom.com and downloading one of these apps so you're always in the know! I can't speak for the Android/iOS apps, but I have a bunch of new features lined up for future versions. I'm looking forward to the feedback!
