Another weekend and another commitment for Mike London and the Virginia football program, as Johnstown (Pa.) cornerback Kareem Gibson became the latest to join the Wahoo family.
Gibson selected the Cavaliers over offers from Penn State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia among others.
The 5-10, 160 pound defensive back was offered by UVa back on May 31st, and after camp stops at Maryland and Penn State, Gibson decided to commit to the Orange and Blue.
Recently at the Nittany Lions' camp, Gibson turned many heads, posting a 9 ft, 8 inch broad jump and a 4.04 shuttle run.
Gibson is a Washington D.C. native, having spent his first two years at Archbishop Carroll High School before moving to Pennsylvania prior to the start of his junior season.
The rising senior is the second DB commit for the class of 2015, joining Altavista standout Juan Thornhill, who will be slotted at safety.
UVa has built solid depth in the secondary over the last couple of cycles. Tra Nicholson and DreQuan Hoskey will be gone in 2015, but the Cavaliers will have Maurice Canady (will be a senior), Tim Harris, Divante Walker, C.J. Moore (will be juniors), Kirk Garner (will be a sophomore), and Jeff Farrar and Darious Latimore (will either be sophs or rs freshman). Look for Gibson to redshirt to refine his game and be ready to compete with the more experienced upperclassmen in the coming years.
Here is the rest of the class of 2015 to date:
Juan Thornhill, DB-Altavista, Va
Ryan Bischoff, OL-Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
Nick Johns, QB-Washington D.C.
David Eldridge, WR-Nokesville, Va
