Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association released its list of nominees for the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, and Virginia middle linebacker Henry Coley is one of 90 FBS players to be nominated
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes a select group of college football players who have made a commitment to enriching the lives of others while contributing to the greater good of their communities.
Off the field, Coley regularly visits the local Children's Hospital to spread hope and encouragement to patients there. He also coaches flag football games at the Boys and Girls Club (an organization that Streaking The Lawn has supported in the past). Together with the UVa football team, he has helped lead the annual UVa Football Bone Marrow Registry Drive, the efforts of which have seen two players become a perfect match, each saving a life.
On the field, Coley will be one of four team captains for this upcoming campaign. He started all 12 games last year, leading the Hoos with 91 tackles. He had 8.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. He also returned an interception for 23 yards against BYU after Ant Harris lateraled the ball to him. We was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and the VaSID all-state second team. This year, he is on Phil Steele's preseason all-ACC third team.
From this year's 90 FBS nominees, a final roster of 11 award recipients will be unveiled in September. Fans will then have the opportunity to vote for the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain. You can see the rest of the nominees here.
