It will be a busy couple of days for Mike London, but the Virginia head coach received some great news last night, when Hickory tight end Richard Burney committed to the Cavaliers. Burney selected the Hoos over offers from Cincinnati, Charlotte, Buffalo, James Madison, and Liberty.
The 6-4, 230 pound tight end pulled in an offer from UVa back in June, and committed to the Orange and Blue just over a month later. Burney showed well at Virginia's one-day camp, and impressed the UVa staff, most notably lead recruiter, Chip West.
The 2015 standout is the second tight end to commit to the Wahoos, along with New Jersey native Tanner Crawley. Virginia is extremely thin at tight end, and will have just three on its roster when Burney and Crawley arrive on grounds. Assuming they both redshirt in 2015, only Mario Nixon and Evan Butts will be left in the fold, and neither one of them has played a down of college football yet.
