In this week's edition of Recruiting Roundup, we will preview several big football announcements taking place next week and touch up on some basketball.
Let's go!
The Week Ahead:
No commitments took place since last Thursday's Roundup, but that could change in a big way next week. August 3rd-5th could yield some great news for Mike London and the Cavaliers. Let's breakdown the three-day stretch….
August 3rd: Wahoo fans need to keep an eye out for Bethlehem Catholic (Bethlehem Pa.) wide receiver Freddie Simmons, who is set to announce on Sunday. The three-star wideout will decide between finalists, UVa, West Virginia, Rutgers, and Wake Forest. Simmons is coming off of a great visit to Charlottesville last Monday, and Wahoo fans should feel good about their chances with the Keystone State native.
August 4th: No decisions on Monday, but St. Christopher's linebacker Ricky DeBerry will reveal his top-eight schools. DeBerry, who has an offer list as long as your arm had a great visit to grounds for London's one-day camp last Wednesday. Expect Virginia to make the cut for the four-star 'backer.
August 5th: Next Tuesday will be the big one, as a pair of linebackers will announce their respective decisions. Highly touted Ocean Lakes linebacker, Jahvoni Simmons will come off the board at a ceremony taking place at his school. The four-star MLB will visit UVa this weekend before he announces on Tuesday, which is great news for the Cavaliers. If the Virginia can reel in Simmons, the Wahoos will have two of the nation's top-ranked middle linebackers in the fold for 2015.
In addition to Simmons, Washington D.C. outside linebacker Kareem McDonald will end his recruitment on Wednesday as well. The former Old Dominion commit had a great outing at London's camp, which earned him an offer. McDonald boasts 10 Division 1 offers, and will decide on Wednesday between Virginia and Toledo. McDonald is close friends with Jahvoni Simmons, and the two have been communicating quite a bit since the two linebackers announced that they would both decide on August 5th. You do the math…
Keep an eye on:
Milburn (Nj.) DE/TE Jake Prickard could come off the board any day now, and the Wahoos have a shot. The 6-5, 234 pound athlete has an impressive offer-sheet, including Nebraska, Oregon, and Wisconsin. Prickard recently visited UVa, but the Garden State native appears to have had a great time in Madison this past weekend. Stay tuned.
Also, Lilburn (Ga.) defensive end, G.G. Robinson recently released his top-six, with the Cavaliers on top, along with Louisville, We expect the three-star DE to commit to his school of choice before the season.
Making the Cut:
Switching to the hardwood, Brewster Academy PF, Jarred Reuter picked up an offer from the Cavaliers on Friday, and the big man wasted little time reveling his top schools. After picking up the offer, Reuter released a top-five consisting of Iowa, Providence, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia. The Cavaliers have just one scholarship to offer for the class of 2015, and a big man appears to be the priority, with Darion Atkins graduating after this upcoming season. What does this mean for UVa's pursuit of former Georgetown commit Noah Dickerson? We should know a lot more in the coming weeks.
New Name at PG:
Speaking of offers, Tony Bennett and company offered 2016 Lawrence Center (Indianapolis In.) point guard Kyle Guy on Saturday. The 6-2, 155 pound pg has been on a hot streak this month, picking up offers from Butler, Creighton, NC State, Iowa, Iowa State, and Ole Miss in the last 25 days. Guy is the second 2016 point guard to pick up an offer from Virginia this month, as the Wahoos extended one to New York native, Payton Prichard last Monday.
That will do it for this week's Roundup. Next week's edition will be loaded with content based on what happens in the days leading up. Have a great week everybody!
