While the football program is in the midst of a huge recruiting week, Tony Bennett and the basketball team made a splash yesterday. On the heels of earning a UVa offer, Brewster Academy power forward Jarred Reauter committed to the defending ACC Champions on Saturday evening.
The 6-8, 245 pounder selected the Wahoos over offers from Pittsburgh, Iowa, Providence, Rutgers, and South Carolina among others.
When describing Virginia's newest edition, the word "tough" is bound to come up. At 245 pounds, Reuter has the ability to initiate contact and impose his will in the paint. UVa fans saw how important it is to have an enforcer down low last season, with the emergence of Anthony Gill. While not as athletic as AG, Reuter will be a guy that can bang in the low post and draw the attention of opposing defenses. Reuter is also an excellent passer, which will allow him to fit right into Virginia's offensive system.
Following the 2014-15 season, the Cavaliers will lose just one senior, Darion Atkins, and Reuter will fill the void in the front court.
With Reuter in the fold, all 13 scholarships are spoken for for the 2015-16 squad. The Wahoos are finished for the class of 2015 for the time being, but things are always subject to change. If there is any attrition during or after this season, look for Bennett to work his magic in the Spring. The Virginia head coach has demonstrated the ability to make quick connections and reel in a late surprise or two in the past.
