ACC Season Begins for UVA Men’s Soccer

The Hoos, ranked #3 a week ago, have fallen to #15. This is because they simply can't find the back of the net. Three goals in three games isn't getting it done.

Senior MF Eric Bird and the rest of the Hoos need to score more goals.

The Hoos men’s soccer team continues to frustrate. They went to Tulsa, and lost to the unranked Golden Hurricane. Later in the weekend, they beat the #18 UAB Blazers. This dropped the Hoos from #3 overall to #15.

That puts them at 2-1 on the season, with two OT games and all 3 games being decided by a single goal. The Hoos have scored just 3 goals in 3 games, while conceding 2. One hundred and twelve teams have scored more than 3 goals, some in just 2 games. Bowling Green has scored 16 goals in 4 games. Eight individual players have scored more than 3 goals.

Sure the Hoos have played some top competition, but the lack of goalscoring is a concern. And it’s going to have to change in a hurry, because the Hoos are beginning conference play. Up first is the Hokies tomorrow night. For fans who will be in Charlottesville for the Louisville football game, do yourself a favor and check out Klockner Stadium at 7PM. The Hoos could use the support and the atmosphere for UVA soccer games is a lot of fun. And, of course, you can jeer the Hokies.
