Monday Motivation: Women's Soccer shakes their demon (or 'Nole)

The Women's Soccer team takes down No.1 FSU and basketball is sooooo close to being back (and it can't happen soon enough)!

Jonathan Dyer-USA TODAY Sports

I missed you all last week as I was out of pocket on a trip, but fear not... Monday Motivation is back with a vengeance. Let's roll.

Rapid Fire

-No.21 Men's Soccer took down Virginia Tech 1-0 on the road behind a goal from first year Derrick Etienne. The Hoos have now defeated their foes in Blacksburg for 11 straight games (8-0-3) and the win put them in fourth place in the ACC, guaranteeing a bye for the first round of the upcoming tournament. Most importantly, however, the win gives Virginia a point in the Commonwealth Clash, which the Hoos now lead 1.5-0 (Volleyball got the other half point).

Check out the highlights.

Virginia returns home against No.6 North Carolina on Friday at 7pm with Senior Day recognitions before the game.

-Women's Volleyball rebounded and took down Notre Dame 3-1 after dropping the first game. Junior Haley Kole had her fourth straight game with double digit kills as she led the team with 17. Natalie Bausback recorded a double-double (her seventh of the season) with 15 kills and 10 digs. First year Anna Walsh also had 10 kills in the victory. The Hoos are now14-7 with a 6-4 ACC record and host Wake Forest Friday night at 7pm.

HOO-mongous Wins

-The No.2 Women's Soccer team had a hellUVA week, taking down both Louisville and top-ranked Florida State to the tune of 1-0. Virginia got the lone goal against the Cardinals from first year Brianna Westrup. The goal was her first of her career, in her first career start. Why was she starting, you ask? Because Emily Sonnett, the usual starter, was traveling with the US Women's National Team. Oh, and Sonnett got the start with the National Team against Brazil, along with former Wahoos Becky Sauerbrunn and Morgan Brian. #soccerschool

On top of that awesomeness, the Hoos finally defeated the dragon that has been so cumbersome to them: Florida State. Virginia only lost three games last year (regular season, ACC tournament finals, and the national championship), and they were all to FSU with a score of 1-0. Well, the Cavaliers exorcised their demons with a 1-0 victory of their own behind an Alexis Shaffer penalty kick in the first half.

The Senior Day win pushed the Hoos to 13-1-1 and 7-1 in the ACC. They close the regular season on the road with trips to NC State and Pittsburgh this week.

-YOU GUYS BASKETBALL IS SO CLOSE. Virginia held the Pepsi Blue-White Intrasquad Scrimmage on Saturday, giving fans a glimpse of what may be to come for the preseason ranked No.6 Wahoos. Season opens November 13 at JPJ against Morgan State. Check out the video below for highlights of the scrimmage. Here are a few of my favorite things:

-Brogdon step back jumper <3

-Tobey dunks. Seriously. There are three (including an oop), and all of those would have been lay-ups last season.

-So much beautiful passing. Hall and Thompson each had nice looks in the video.

-Jack Salt used his Mike Curtis'd body not just for power, but had some nice moves to finish at the rim.

-OH HI, MARIAL SHAYOK. I SEE YOU DUNKIN'.
