Sometimes a sports story comes along that puts all of the others into perspective. The Washington Post provided some sad perspective this morning with a heartbreaking story on former Virginia women's basketball star Schuye LaRue and her descent into homelessness. Kudos to Post writer Terrence McCoy for writing such a poignant piece, which can be found here.

LaRue was a promising talent for Debbie Ryan's Lady Cavaliers at the turn of the century. McCoy's piece discussed her going toe-to-toe in a pick-up game with former WNBA star Chamique Holdsclaw. Sadly, LaRue now suffers from schizophrenia and psychotic disorder. She was first diagnosed in 2002 after returning from a season of playing professionally in Italy. According to McCoy's account, LaRue refuses help from a number of concerned friends and former teammates. She currently lives homeless in Washington, DC.

Please take a moment to read McCoy's sobering piece.

We're all thinking of you, Schuye.
