On Saturday, the Virginia Cavaliers lost to the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Florida 21 to 27. It was UVA's 14th straight loss away from the friendly confines of Charlottesville. The last time the Hoos won a football game on the road was against NC State over three years ago, on November 3rd, 2012. Below is a list of Virginia's last 15 road games:
The last time the Cavaliers had such a streak was from 1958-1962 when UVA lost 18 straight road games. That streak at least included a neutral site win against VMI in Roanoke during the time frame. The longest stretch of losses away from Charlottesville is 19 during that 1958-1961 span as well. The coach for the 1958-1961 seasons was Richard Voris, who went 1-29 at the helm.
The loss brings Mike London's record away from home to 5-24 (.172), compared to 18-31 (.367) for Al Groh, and 55-59 (.482) for George Welsh.
Hopefully Virginia can reverse this trend next week in the last away game of the year at Louisville.
