Virginia released their 2016 lacrosse schedule today. The men's schedule has 14 games, eight of which are at home. Let's take a look:
Date | Opponent |
Feb. 13 | Loyola (Md.) |
Feb. 20 | @ Drexel |
Feb. 23 | High Point |
Feb. 28 | Penn |
Mar. 4 | Syracuse |
Mar. 8 | St. Joseph's |
Mar. 12 | @ Cornell |
Mar. 19 | @ Notre Dame |
Mar. 27 | Johns Hopkins |
Mar. 29 | VMI |
Apr. 2 | @ Richmond |
Apr. 10 | @North Carolina |
Apr. 17 | Duke |
Apr. 23 | @ Georgetown |
The ACC tournament is scheduled for April 29 and May 1 in Kennesaw, GA.
At first glance, the schedule looks similar to the last few seasons. The Hoos open with an always tough Loyola squad, and two seasons ago the game ended dramatically in overtime in Charlottesville. Drexel, St. Joe's, Penn, and Richmond are some challenging out of conference matches that will serve as a good gauge for Coach Starsia's squad.
Cornell and Johns Hopkins are no surprise as normal rivals, and the Hoos will travel to Washington, DC to face the Hoyas who came to UVA last year. Hopefully that is a matchup that will continue past this first home and home.
In the ACC there are no surprises. Syracuse, UNC, ND, and Duke will be touch and the Hoos will have to improve upon their last couple seasons of conference play in order to make the ACC tournament.
Virginia returns key players Matt Barrett, Greg Coholan, Tanner Scales, and James Pannell. Season tickets are available through Virginia, and stay with us as the season progresses for all your lacrosse coverage needs.
