Virginia Basketball: Hoos escape California behind late Perrantes three

Wow.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.

In one of the wildest games in the history of John Paul Jones Arena, London Perrantes sank a three from the left wing with 10 seconds left to push the Cavaliers' win streak to nine games and beat California 63-62.

When the tide turned

Perrantes fed it to Malcolm Brogdon after an in-bounds play with 22 seconds to go, got it right back, and pulled up with Tyrone Wallace desperately putting a hand in his face. His off-balance jumper right in front of the Virginia bench was true, and JPJ entered the stratosphere.

Players of the game

Perrantes' second made three of the night gave him his 10th point, and his 6:0 assist-to-turnover ratio wasn't too shabby either.

Tip of the cap to California's Jordan Mathews, who put up 16 points and was 4-8 from three. Mathews was only two points short of tying teammate Jaylen Brown for a game-high 18.
