Cowley signs with Virginia

The New Jersey native brings much-needed help to the tight end position

Profile: Tanner Cowley

High School: Manasquan (Manasquan Nj.)

Height/weight: 6-4, 220

Ranking: Rivals 2*, ESPN 3*, 247 3*

Additional offers: Buffalo, Connecticut, Rutgers

The skinny:

If you had Tanner Cowley as the first member of the class of 2015, you win. Cowley faxed in his LOI just after 7:20 A.M. making it official. The Garden State native played tight end and weakside defensive end for Manasquan High, but will lineup on offense for the Wahoos.

Cowley’s addition is big in that the cupboard is pretty bare at tight end. Zack Swanson’s gradation leave just one tight end on the roster (Rob Burns) who has ever stepped onto the field for a college game. Redshirt freshman Evan Butts will likely contribute this fall, but once again, experience is not on Butts’ or Virginia’s side. Look for Cowley to duke it out with fellow freshman Richard Burney for playing time this fall.
