Virginia Football Recruiting: Running back Chris Sharp signs with UVa

Sharp brings a physical presence to the Virginia backfield

The skinny:

If Olamide Zaccheaus is lightning, than Chris Sharp is thunder. The bulk of the schools that offered the Garden State native viewed him as an outside linebacker, but Sharp will play running back at Virginia. Sharp is a physical running back and is not afraid to lower his shoulder and take contact. The Garden State native is a between the tackles type of rusher, but is deceivingly fast for a guy his size.

This past fall, Sharp bulldozed his way to 1,085 yards and 19 touchdowns.

With Kevin Parks gone, Virginia is void of an every-down running back. Smoke Mizzell will get the lion’s share of the carries, but he is not the type of ‘player to run between the tackles. Redshirt freshman Jordan Ellis will likely be the team’s first option as a "power ‘back" this fall. Sharp could find his way onto the field, but he will likely redshirt.
