For the fifth consecutive year, the Cavaliers Against Cancer Charity Texas Hold'em Tournament will be raising money for cancer research at the UVA cancer center. This year, participants will have the unique opportunity to play in the tournament right at the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center, a great way to see where the charity's proceeds are headed.
The cost to participate runs from $50 to $150, and includes multiple tournaments depending on your poker skill sets, and opportunities to rebuy and build up your stack partway through. With tournaments geared towards both beginners and the elite, and with free roundtrip limousine transportation to and from Richmond, there really aren't a lot of excuses out there to skip out on this great fundraiser.
But in case the prospect of funding research to cure a disease that is projected to cause 1.6 million new patients this year alone, and nearly 600,000 deaths in the United States, isn't enough for you, the tournament organizers have sweetened the pot by adding over $19,000 worth of prizes that you can take home. This includes autographed items from men's basketball, baseball, and football, as well as a high-end Savvy Rest Queen or King organic pillowtop mattress valued at up to $5,149 donated by Savvy Rest Natural Bedroom.
The event takes place on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. The deadline to register is this Saturday, February 14, and you can register or find out more information by visiting their website, www.CavaliersAgainstCancer.org.
