And then there were seven.
The Arkansas Razorbacks became the first team to be eliminated from the College World Series, after falling the Miami 4-3 in dramatic fashion.
Hours after Vanderbilt used a two-run walk off home run to defeat Cal State Fullerton, the Canes relied on late-game heroics of their own to keep their season alive.
Jacob Heyward, younger brother of St. Louis Cardinals RF Jason Heyward, drove in Willie Abreu to lift Miami over the Hogs in thrilling fashion.
Heyward recorded three of UM's seven hits and scored one run.
Arkansas out-hit Miami 9-7, but the Razorbacks failed to take advantage of runners in scoring position throughout the contest.
Miami wil face the loser of tonight's Virginia/Florida game. Whoever the Canes face next, they will be plenty familiar with their opponent. UM has played both the Hoos and Gators four times each this season. The Canes went 2-2 against UVa, and 1-3 against the Gators, including a 13-5 drubbing at the hands of UF on Saturday night.
One interesting fact to take away from the CWS so far, each losing team has finished their respective games with three runs scored.
Other than Miami fans of course, perhaps nobody was excited to see that game end than the folks Charlottesville VA and Gainsville FL.
