After the first day of the US Open at Chambers Bay in Washington, Virginia alumnus Denny McCarthy found himself tied for fourth among all amateurs, and tied for 42nd overall at 1-over 71. Fellow UVA alum Steve Marino posted 5-over 75.

Both of them finished well ahead of Tiger Woods, who had a disastrous first day at 10-over 80. He finished tied for 152, or third to last on the leader board, behind every single amateur player out there.

Earlier this week, McCarthy has aced the ninth hole during practice. The video below is his and the crowd's reaction as he took the long walk down the fairway to collect his ball.

Second round action has already started, with McCarthy hitting a birdie on the 12th hole, his third hole of the day.

You can follow the live-scoring leader board here. Marino will tee off at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time on the tenth hole.
