Game 2: Saturday, June 6, 3 PM, ESPNU

Last year, the #3 National Seed Virginia hosted a Super against Maryland, the #2 seed in their Columbia region, as well. The Hoos dropped game 1 5-4, but came back to win the next two 7-3 and 11-2 to advance to Omaha.
This season, the teams arrived at the same point in far less traditional fashion. UVA entered the postseason as a #3 regional seed at 34-22. After starting the year with a consensus top 5 ranking, the Hoos were crushed by injury and inexperience; weeks before the tournament, a bid looked uncertain. In Lake Elsinore, great starting pitching from Connor Jones and Brandon Waddell got the team to a regional final against USC, where the Hoos slugged their way past the burnt-out Trojans.
Maryland's path through the regional was even less probable, as the Terps were listed as one of the Committee's "Last 4 In" and shipped out west to the LA Regional where top-seeded UCLA awaited. But Maryland beat Ole Miss, then took 2 of 3 from #1 UCLA to earn a rematch with UVA.
Through that unlikely series of events, Virginia will host a Super Regional for the fifth time in sixth years. We'll have more all week to preview this weekend's matchup, with a trip to Omaha on the line.
