Former Cavalier Nathan Kirby signs with the Milwaukee Brewers

The lefty pitcher signs a hefty contract as the No. 40 pick in the MLB Draft

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Coming close to the 5:00 p.m. deadline, now former-Virginia Cavalier and 40th pick of the MLB Draft Nathan Kirby has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Keith Law tweeted it first:

Shortly after, Kirby followed suit.

Congratulations to Kirby, who according to CBS, will be raking in $1.25 million.

Kirby was selected in Competitive Balance Round A as the Brewers' second overall pick, after taking OF Trent Clark, who signed just two days ago with a $2.7 million bonus. Kirby's $1.25 million bonus is just under the signing bonus value for the 40th pick at $1.5 million.

Kirby finished this season 5-3 with a 2.53 ERA, recording the final six outs as the Hoos clinched the College World Series just last month.
