Virginia to wear throwback uniforms against William & Mary

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia will be rocking the throwback jerseys it wore last year in its 45-13 win over Kent State, it was revealed Monday afternoon.

As Dillman writes, that also happens to be the same uniforms Virginia debuted and wore in that narrow 44-38 loss to Louisiana Tech in 2012.

These throwback uniforms were modeled off the 1968 team that featured ACC Player of the Year and Athlete of the Year Frank Quayle. That 1968 team finished 7-3, which might not seem noteworthy today, but it came off of 15 straight seasons without a winning season for Virginia. The previous dated back to 1952, when Art Guepe left Virginia for Vanderbilt.

Quayle's number 24 is one of the six retired numbers for Virginia Football, along with 12 (Shawn Moore), 35 (Bill Dudley), 48 (Joe Palumbo), 73 (Jim Dombrowski) and 97 (Gene Edmonds).

Kickoff for Virginia and William and Mary is Saturday, September 19, at 3:30 p.m. in Charlottesville.
