UVA's Defense has struggled statistically so far this season

The Hoo's have not forced a turnover yet this season and rank last in the ACC in defense.

Despite earning their first win on Saturday, the Virginia Cavaliers need to be worried about their defense. UVA gave up 29 points and 371 yards to FCS-level William and Mary after allowing 34 points and 460+ yards to Notre Dame and UCLA in the previous weeks. The more alarming stat is that the Hoos have not forced a turnover yet this season. Virginia is one of only three FBS schools (out of 128) to not have a takeaway this year. (Vanderbilt and Wake Forest are the other two). The Cavaliers have not had three straight games in a season without causing a turnover since at least 2000. UVA does not fare well in other defensive categories as well. The chart below shows the Hoos defense is last in the ACC and near the bottom nationally in points, yards, and yards per play.

UVA Defense Rankings

While Virginia's offense and quarterback play have been consistent this season so far, the defensive unit needs to pick up their game in order for the Hoos to have a successful season.
