Virginia announced late Friday afternoon that forward Austin Nichols has been suspended for the team’s two preseason scrimmages and the season opener at UNC Greensboro in two weeks.
According to a press release, Nichols is sitting out for an unspecified “violation of team rules.”
Nichols sat out last year after transferring from Memphis. The redshirt junior forward is considered a key piece of the 2016-17 team for his elite rim protection and physical presence on both ends of the floor.
Virginia fans will have to wait until Tuesday, Nov. 15 at home against St. Francis Brooklyn at the earliest to get a glimpse of the heralded Nichols.
