Hoos in the NFL Week 9: Former Cavaliers help shape the playoffs picture

NFL: Tennessee Titans at San Diego Chargers Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

We’re now 9 weeks into the season and the playoff picture is starting to open up.

The major contributors:

Branden Albert, Miami Dolphins – The Dolphins had just 274 total yards, but it was enough to beat the Jets. They did average 4.3 yards per rush, which is solid and gave up just 1 sack.

Ahmad Brooks, San Francisco 49ers – The Niners start a pair of Hoos as their OLBs, but their defense is not good. The visiting Saints put up almost 600 yards of offense. Brooks had 3 tackles.

Eli Harold, San Francisco 49ers – Harold had 4 tackles (see Brooks, above).

Dontrelle Inman, San Diego Chargers – Inman continues to start. He had 6 catches for 56 yards on 9 targets. The Chargers had almost 500 yards of offense and won again.

Cam Johnson, Cleveland Browns – Johnson had 5 tackles in the Browns’ latest loss. They are 0-9.

Chris Long, New England Patriots – Patriots had a bye week.

Rodney McLeod, Philadelphia Eagles – McLeod had just 3 tackles this week along with 1 pass defensed. He briefly had an INT, which was overturned upon review. He also took a bad route on an Odell Beckham TD. The Eagles pass defense was not good, though they completely shut down the Giants run game.

Morgan Moses, Washington Redskins – Redskins had a bye week.

Austin Pasztor, Cleveland Browns – The Browns were crushed again, at home. They had just 222 yards of total offense and averaged just 3.5 yards per rush. They also gave up 4 sacks. Not a good performance from Pasztor and the rest of the OL.

Versatile Contributors:

John Phillips, Denver Broncos – Phillips was active this week, but did not see the field in the Broncos loss to the Raiders.

Brent Urban, Baltimore Ravens – Urban played 6 snaps on defense and 6 more on special teams, but did not record any stats.

Special Teams Standouts:

Anthony Harris, Minnesota Vikings – Harris saw 6 plays on defense, along with 19 on special teams. He had 1 tackle.

LaRoy Reynolds, Atlanta Falcons – Once again, Reynolds did not see any time on defense, but played extensively on special teams. He did not record any stats.

Put Me In, Coach!:

Oday Aboushi, Houston Texans – Texans were on a bye.

Luke Bowanko, Jacksonville Jaguars –Luke is on the PUP list after undergoing hip labrum surgery.

Maurice Canady, Baltimore Ravens – Canady is on IR with a hamstring injury.

David Dean, Cincinnati Bengals – Dean remains on Cincinnati’s practice squad.

Cedric Peerman, Cincinnati Bengals – Peerman is on IR for the Bengals after breaking his arm during training camp.

Matt Schaub, Atlanta Falcons – Schaub came in for the Falcons’ final drive for a pair of kneeldowns.

Canaan Severin, Pittsburgh Steelers – Severin is on IR for the Steelers with a shoulder injury suffered during preseason.

We’ll be following the progress of these former Hoos throughout the season. Stay tuned to Streaking The Lawn for a weekly rundown!
