Late Friday afternoon, Virginia basketball head coach Tony Bennett announced that Austin Nichols, a junior forward transfer from Memphis, has been dismissed from the program. After sitting out last year due to transfer restrictions, Nichols had been named to at least one preseason All-American team, the only Cavalier to receive such accolade.

On ESPN SportsCenter’s 3 Stars of the Night segment on Friday night, host Chris Hassel awarded his star to Tony Bennett for upholding Virginia’s standards.

“The best player on a team that’s expected to be one of the best in the ACC, maybe win a national title: gone.”

“Many coaches wouldn’t have done that,” Hassell said. “Tony Bennett did. That’s why he’s my star of the night.”
