ACC Men’s Soccer Championship: Virginia advances to quarterfinals past NC State

A late goal lifts the Cavaliers past the Wolfpack.

The sixth-seeded Virginia men’s soccer team advanced past the 11th-seeded NC State Wolfpack after Pablo Aguilar scored the lone goal of the match in the 82nd minute. Virginia is joined in the ACC quarterfinals by fifth-seeded Syracuse and eighth-seeded Boston College, who defeated Pitt and Virginia Tech, respectively.

The Duke-Notre Dame match was postponed to Thursday at 1:00 p.m. due to weather.

With the shutout, Virginia keeper Jeff Caldwell has now shut out nine teams this season, and 17 in his career, good for fifth in the program annals.

This is the second straight game-winning goal after lifting Virginia over Duke, 1-0, to close out the regular season.
