Virginia commit Lamont Atkins of Burke, VA was named the 2017 Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Originally a Vanderbilt commit, Atkins had flipped his commitment in favor of Bronco Mendenhall and company in late April, having held offers from Northwestern, Maryland and Navy, among others.
