ACC Basketball Power Rankings: Post Exam Break Shakeup?

On Christmas Eve, Coach K stalks the suburbs for those on his naughty list

Ho ho ho, Hoos. Happy Holidays from the STL Power Rankings. Not a ton of movement this week, as we’re still a little ways off from seeing statement games and conference play. Still, a few ACC teams played some solid OOC opponents - let’s see how that impacted our rankings:

1) Duke (11-1) Last Week: 1

2) UNC (10-2) Last Week: 2

Losing one of the best games of the year to one of the best teams in the country led to the Heels still sitting at number 2 in our eyes.

3) Virginia (9-1) Last Week: 3

A win over Robert Morris was enough for some STL writers to put the Hoos above UNC, but the rational majority of the group kept UVa at number three.

4) Louisville (10-1) Last Week: 4

The Cardinals keep winning - and a close loss to Baylor is certainly looking less and less important. Louisville has the talent (on defense) to challenge for the ACC title.

5) Florida State (12-1) Last Week: 5

Speaking of ACC teams to watch as sleepers, every week I talk about FSU being a contender...and they’re currently #1 at 12-1. Wouldn’t be floored to see them finish in the top 3 when all is said and done.

6) Notre Dame (10-2) Last Week: 6

Losing to Purdue is no poor result - but the Irish will regret dropping their top two OOC games when it comes time for NCAAT seeding.

7) Virginia Tech (10-1) Last Week: 7

Your weekly Buzz Williams is hip with the emojis, children:

seriously, that is incomprehensible

8) Miami (8-2) Last Week: 9

Moving on up thanks to Syracuse’s moving on down, the Canes certainly look like a capable squad.

9) Clemson (8-2) Last Week: 10

Two wins over Alabama and SC St have the Tigers climbing slightly. Really, neither loss for Clemson is a bad one - this team could be much higher by the end of the season.

10) Syracuse (7-4) Last Week: 8

Are Syracuse and Michigan State just trolling everyone? Specifically UVa fans? Look for both the Orange and Spartans to win enough conference games to be the 9 and 10 seeds in UVa’s NCAAT bracket.

11) Pittsburgh (9-2) Last Week: 11

Beat Rice. Still lost to Duquesne. I’ve started to pronounce that Doo-kwess-nee in my head for the giggles.

12) Wake (8-3) Last Week: 12

A close loss to Xavier is probably a fine sign for the Deacs. It’s easy to see Wake winning 5+ games in the ACC this year.

13) NC State (9-2) Last Week: 13

The Wolfpack scored 99 and 97 points this past week. They are also 241st nationally in scoring defense on the season.

14) Georgia Tech (6-4) Last Week: 14

Getting trucked by rival Georgia diminishes a lot of the goodwill earned from the VCU win, Josh.

15) Boston College (6-5) Last Week: 15

The Golden Jesuits rebounded from a loss to Hartford with a TWO GAME WINNING STREAK AW YEAH.
