As Jamie Oakes, from 24/7, predicted over the weekend, UVa got some good news on the recruiting cycle early this week.
That good news comes in the form of a commitment from Windemere Prep offensive tackle, Ryan Swoboda. The 6-10, 270 lb (!) tackle doesn’t have an impressive list of Power 5 schools thus far with UVa being the only offer, but other bigger schools were starting to show interest given his upside.

Although he’ll likely redshirt his first year on grounds, given he is still so raw, Swoboda is a huge pull for the staff needing line help on both sides of the ball. Hell, at 6-10 and a large basketball skillset, if UVa comes into too much talent on the lines, Swoboda could be a monster at the TE position. But for now, he’ll focus on the tackle spot.
Check out Swoboda’s highlights from this season below.
If Virginia is looking to develop lanky line prospects who show athleticism and aggression, Swoboda is a good fit with his basketball background. He moves pretty well to get into space, with his long strides giving him deceptive speed. The worst tendency in his highlights is that he leans on defenders instead of striking them: he extends his arms to finish blocks but not to start them. For a guy with his wingspan, Swoboda should be able to deliver some pretty vicious hand strikes at first contact.
