We know you’re confused that it’s December and we’re talking about both UVA and football in the same article, but trust us on this one. Virginia alumni continue to dot the NFL (even if largely on losing teams).
The major contributors:
Branden Albert, Miami Dolphins – Albert returned after missing 2 games and played every offensive snap. The Dolphins scored just 6 points (1 TD) but they were down big early. They ran for nearly 4 yards per rush, but only had 16 running plays. The Ravens had just 1 sack.
Ahmad Brooks, San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers were crushed by a bad Bears team. But the offense was really the problem, putting up just 147 yards and a pair of field goals. The defense actually kept the Bears out of the end zone until late in the first half. Brooks had 2 tackles, one sack and one TFL. He also had a QB hurry.
Eli Harold, San Francisco 49ers – Eli had just 1 tackle, but it was for loss.
Dontrelle Inman, San Diego Chargers – Inman had just 2 catches, but one was a 35 yard TD. He had 49 yards receiving.
Cam Johnson, Cleveland Browns – Amazingly, the Browns didn’t lose this week. They were on a bye.
Chris Long, New England Patriots – Playing against his former team, Long helped the Patriots hold the Rams to just 162 total yards. Long had just 1 tackle, but it was a sack.
Rodney McLeod, Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles defense has fallen off the pace over the past few weeks, especially against the pass. McLeod had 7 tackles, most of which came against the run. He had a few tackles on pass plays, but they were all well downfield.
Morgan Moses, Washington Redskins – The Skins lost again, but it wasn’t really the offense’s fault. They rushed for almost 5 yards per carry, but ran it just 18 times and Cousins was sacked just twice. They were down from the start, though they managed to keep it close.
Austin Pasztor, Cleveland Browns – A much needed bye week for the Browns.
Versatile Contributors:
John Phillips, New Orleans Saints – The Saints starts 2 TEs, and Phillips was one of them. However, he did not record a catch or a target. He was in for 19 plays on offense and 11 on special teams.
Brent Urban, Baltimore Ravens – Urban played 12 snaps on defense and 7 more on special teams. He had 2 tackles including a sack.
Special Teams Standouts:
Anthony Harris, Minnesota Vikings – Harris played 1 snap on defense, and a season-high 22 on special teams. He did not record any stats.
Cedric Peerman, Cincinnati Bengals – Peerman returned from IR last week. This week, he played 15 snaps on special teams and did not record any stats.
LaRoy Reynolds, Atlanta Falcons – Reynolds played 5 snaps on defense, recording one tackle. He also played special teams, but did not have any tackles.
Put Me In, Coach!:
Oday Aboushi, Houston Texans – Aboushi was inactive this week.
Luke Bowanko, Jacksonville Jaguars – Luke is on the PUP list after undergoing hip labrum surgery.
Maurice Canady, Baltimore Ravens – Canady is on IR with a hamstring injury.
David Dean, Cincinnati Bengals – Dean remains on Cincinnati’s practice squad.
Matt Schaub, Atlanta Falcons – Schaub did not play this week.
Canaan Severin, Pittsburgh Steelers – Severin is on IR for the Steelers with a shoulder injury suffered during preseason.
We’ll be following the progress of these former Hoos throughout the season. Stay tuned to Streaking The Lawn for a weekly rundown!
