The UVa baseball team had three of their first years named to the Top 100 Freshman Prospects, released this morning by d1baseball.com
The list has infielder Ryan Karstetter at #22, outfielder Doak Dozier at #26, and fellow outfielder Jake Mccarthy at #93. Although we haven't seen the three play any official games for the Cavaliers, all are expected to make immediate impacts this season as they are likely to see significant playing time.
Karstetter hails from Pennsylvania, but spent the final two years of his high school career at the IMG Academy in Floriday. The first year is likely to take over where Kenny Towns left off at third. He's listed at 6'4 and has been compared to SS Daniel Pinero, but projects to have a bit more power.
First year outfielder Doak Dozier was the other jewel in Coach O'Connor's 2015 class. The 6'2 outfielder from Texas chose to come to UVa instead of being drafted last June. Dozier batted .475 as a senior in high school and lead the state with 35 stolen bases.
The final member of the Top 100 for UVa is a familiar name: Jake McCarthy. Joe McCarthy's younger brother is also scheduled to see time in the outfield. Jake batted .442 his senior year and was selected in the 23rd round last season by the Pirates.
The Cavaliers take the field this weekend in Myrtle Beach as they play in a tournament hosted by Coastal Carolina.
