After exacting revenge against the Hokies last week and a buzzer beater "loss" to Duke on Saturday, not much changed for the Cavaliers in the AP and Coaches Polls.
In the AP poll, the Hoos stayed put at #7 and are just 60 points behind #6 Maryland, who fell from #2 after losing at home to Wisconsin by 13. The Cavaliers were able to jump Xavier, who fell from #5, but North Carolina was able to jump UVa, Xavier, Michigan State, and Maryland after going 2-0 against Pittsburgh and Boston College.
UVa fell a spot in the USA Today-Coaches Poll to #8, thanks in large part to UNC's miraculous climb from #8 to #4. (I guess beating those stalwarts of BC and Pitt gave the pollsters a lot of confidence in the Tar Heels.) The Coaches' Poll is flip-flopped with UVa just behind Xavier by 36 points.
Villanova retained the #1 spot in both polls followed by Kansas and Oklahoma filling out the top 3.
The computers still love UVa more than the humans do:
KenPom: #2 (12th in offense, 9th in defense)
Sagarin: #4
BPI: #4
RPI: #5
Some AP and Coaches Poll nuggets:
- The ACC and Big 12 are tied with 6 teams a piece in the AP Poll
- Duke climbed back into the rankings and flew up the poll to #20
- UVa is 5-1 against the AP Top 25 including wins against the #1, 10, 11, 18, and 19 ranked teams.
